Communicable diseases, sometimes called infectious diseases, are illnesses caused by organisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites which may be spread from one person to another, from animal to person or an object (doorknobs, table tops, food, etc.) to person. Wisconsin State Statute Chapter 252.05 and Administrative Rule HFS 145 require certain communicable diseases to be reported to the local health department.
