Sheboygan County is an agent of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP). The Environmental Health Unit licenses and inspects restaurants, retail food establishments, lodging establishments, campgrounds, public swimming pools and water attractions, mobile food units, and recreational and education camps.

As an agent of the Wisconsin Department of Safety & Professional Services (DSPS) the Environmental Health Unit licenses and inspects body art facilities. Body art practitioners are licensed by DSPS.

As an agent of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) the Environmental Health Unit inspects the water wells and samples the drinking water for establishments that provide water to the public such as food establishments, convenience stores, bars, parks, and other public facilities.

The Environmental Health Unit provides consultation for human health hazards, animal bites, drinking and surface water quality, and other nuisance issues.
