In collaboration with public and private health and social service partners and community volunteers, the Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) promotes effective prevention efforts to keep people healthy and independent.  Evidence-based workshops teach new skills and activities that encourage individuals to develop a healthy lifestyle and reduce their risk in the community.  Workshops are held in different locations at various dates and times throughout the year.  For more information on workshops scheduled at this time, contact the ADRC to register or get on a waitlist so you can be the first to know when something is available.  

Living Well with Chronic Conditions is...

A proven program to improve health and well-being, this evidence-based workshop is for people with on‐going health problems such as arthritis, obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease, depression and others.

New habits take time and in this  workshop you get the time and encouragement you need to make the changes you choose.  You'll build new skills, practice what you learn, and share your experience with others. if you, or someone you live with, has a chronic condition, this is for you.

6 sessions— 2½ hours, once a week, for six weeks. 15 hours For a healthier you.

$20 suggested donation includes book.

  Mind Over Matter: Healthy Bowels, Healthy Bladder (MOM) is...

 A program that helps older women build the skills and confidence they need to avoid or improve symptoms of incontinence. Just three two hour sessions every other week for one month with a limit of 8-12 women to foster trust and privacy. Led by a trained female facilitator, it engages women to work together and meet personalized goals.

3 sessions, each lasting 2 hours, every other week for one month.

Stepping On is. . .

Stepping On brings together the life experience of its participants and the expertise of community professionals. From the first session, participants put new skills to use.  Group members set short term goals each week - goals that focus on life activities that are most important to them. Physical therapists, pharmacists and other experts help the group adapt fall prevention practices for individual needs and levels.

7 sessions— two hours, once a week  for seven weeks,.

$20 suggested donation appreciated.

 

Tai Ji Quan is
A  ten-week program that features instruction in tai chi basics and helps participants establish the habit of regular home practice to learn 8 forms. Unlike most tai chi classes in which participants follow the leader the entire time, Tai Ji Quan involves both standing and seated activities.  Home practice coaching and DVDs help participants establish their own practice routines and are key to long-term success.   Classes meet 2x per week for ten weeks

Each class is 60 minutes long. $20 suggested donation appreciated

   Walk with Ease is:

designed to help people living with arthritis better manage their pain. It’s also ideal for people without arthritis who want to make walking a regular habit.  Based on research and tested programs in exercise science, behavior change and arthritis management, Walk With Ease is shown to: Reduce the pain and discomfort of arthritis, Increase balance, strength and walking pace all while building your confidence to be physically active and improve overall health.

Meets 2-3 times per week for 1 hour.

$10 suggested donation with option to purchase $5 workbook.

Stand Up is . . .

 an evidence-based program designed to help older adults reduce sitting time by standing and moving more. Stand Up is shown to Reduce problems performing daily activities as well as pain interference and intensity. Improve functional performance, vitality, and general overall health.

The program meets once per week for two hours for four weeks, followed by a Booster Session at Week 8.

  PALS is . . .

 Physical Activity for Lifelong Success: an evidence-based program designed to help older adults who are sedentary become more active. The program meets  to facilitate behavior change and improve physical activity levels of participants.

Sessions consist of group learning and an exercise circuit that helps them gradually build strength, balance, and stamina.  Based on researched and tested programs in exercise science and behavior change, PALS is shown to improve both walking speed and distance.

Meets 3 times a week for 10 weeks, followed by 10 weeks of phone coaching sessions
