General Information
The Corrections division is the largest division of the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office, and has been in existence in some form, since the inception of Sheriff’s Office. Although there have been several changes in staffing and operations, the main goal of Corrections has always been to ensure public safety and promote rehabilitation. In addition, inmate safety, facility security, as well as care and custody, are guiding principles in providing quality service and protection to the citizens of Sheboygan County.
In 1981, the Sheriff’s Office relocated to its present location, the Law Enforcement Center. At the time, it was a very contemporary linear facility with modern security systems and increased housing capacity. The second floor of the Law Enforcement Center served as the primary custodial facility until 1998.
In November of 1998, a 95,000 square foot; 295 bed Detention Center was constructed. The male and female offenders who reside here are provided basic hygiene materials, 3 meals per day, various programming opportunities such as education, counseling and religious services, as well as medical and mental health care services.
The Corrections Division is also responsible for the custodial placement if juvenile offenders in Sheboygan County. The East wing of the Law Enforcement Center serves as a 27 bed Juvenile Detention Center housing both male and female offenders. Juveniles who are not afforded the opportunity for community school release and counseling, attend in-house school and counseling through Campus Life.
Today, the Corrections Division is made up of 2 Secretaries, 2 Booking Clerks, 59 Correction Officers, 12 Supervisors, 1 Alternatives to Incarceration (ATI) Coordinator, 1 Electronic Monitoring Officer, 3 ATI Officers, 1 Classification / Court Officer, an Assistant Corrections Administrator, and a Corrections Administrator. Many of these well trained officers comprise Special Teams such as: Correctional Emergency Response Team (CERT), Gang Enforcement Team (GET), Classification Team, Alternatives to Incarceration and Field Training.
