You should be tested if:

  • You are experiencing symptoms of active TB disease. These include: persistent cough lasting three or more weeks AND one or more of the following: coughing up blood, fever, night sweats, unexplained weight loss, or excess fatigue
  • You have spent time with a person known to have active TB disease or suspected to have active TB disease
  • You have HIV infection, or have another condition that weakens the immune system and puts you at higher risk for active TB disease
  • You arrived from a country where active TB disease is very common (most countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, and Russia)
  • You lived or worked in a higher risk setting such as healthcare, corrections, long term-care setting or were homeless in the following states: Alaska, California, Florida, Hawaii, New Jersey, New York, Texas or Washington D.C.
