Sheboygan County Sheriff's Crisis Intervention Team

The Sheboygan County Sheriffs Department currently has six patrol officers, and two corrections officers that have gone through the formal 43 hours of CIT training. By using the skills that they have learned through this excellent training, officers hope to:

  • Make better decisions when dealing with persons in crisis
  • Have a better understanding of what the citizen is going through so they can better serve them
  • Reduce the number of calls involving the individual by use of proper placement
  • Assist them by looking deeper into the underlying cause(s) of the current situation rather than simply looking at it from a traditional law enforcement perspective
  • Reduce injuries to both the officer and the individual
  • More efficiently use our limited resources and funding

Topics that were covered in the CIT training were:

Major Mental Illnesses/Issues

Schizophrenia, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, OCD, Anxiety, PTSD, Personality Disorders

Mental Health Consumer Issues
