Division of Corrections Field Training Team

The Sheboygan County Division of Corrections Field Training Teams main responsibility is to provide on the job training to newly hired officers. They are also responsible to the Department for providing updated training to all Corrections Officers. Members of this team are leaders of their respective shifts that possess a high degree of job knowledge and experience.

Current Field Training Program Details

Currently the Corrections Division Field Training Program is a formal 10 week program, divided into three phases where a newly hired officer works side by side with a training officer to learn the skills and duties required for the position. This formal 10 week training period is followed by a review period, or fourth phase, that last through the Officers 1 year probationary period.

Officers who complete the Training Program have shown that they are capable of working individually and as a team. They can handle the required duties of a corrections officer. They will also have shown to possess excellent communication skills and can handle themselves in a stressful working environment.

Phase #1- Work directly with Field Training Officer to learn duties and needed skills.

Phase #2- Working directly with a Field Training Officer continuing to train on duties and needed skills but starting to take the lead in areas they have shown to be proficient.

Phase #3- Working independently performing duties and skills under the direct observation of a Field Training Officer.

Phase #4- Working as an Officer performing day to day duties. During this phase an officer will be mentored by a Field Trainer Officer who will provide guidance and direction. The officer will also have quarterly reviews with a Field Training Supervisor who is responsible for monitoring and evaluating the officers progress during his/her probationary period.
