The Sheboygan County Bicycle Patrol team currently has 12 trained cyclists including Deputies and a Sergeant.  All members of the team have completed an intensive 32-hour Police Cyclist Class improving their cycling abilities.  The members undergo regular in-service training to maintain their response proficiency  As a team we offer educational opportunities in the form of bike rodeos for different clubs and organizations.  We occasionally host a Police Cyclist School taught by a local officer who is a certified instructor through the International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA).

The team started in 1997 with two cyclists and a Sergeant.  Our team has come a long way but our partnership with the community has been, and always will be the forefront of our efforts.

Any questions, or requests to schedule a bike demonstration or rodeo, please contact Sgt. Trevor Bethke at (920) 459-3114 or Trevor.Bethke@Sheboygancounty.com.

Bicycle Safety Tips

  1. Obey Traffic Laws: Bicyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as motorists. Follow all traffic signals and signs.
  2. Make Yourself Visible: Wear bright, reflective clothing, especially at night or in low-light conditions. Consider adding lights to your bicycle.
  3. Stay Alert: Avoid distractions like using your phone while riding. Keep both hands on the handlebars.
  4. Wear a Helmet: Always wear a properly fitted helmet to protect your head in case of an accident.
  5. Check Your Equipment: Ensure your bike is in good condition. Check the brakes, tires, and reflectors before each ride.
  6. Use Bicycle Lanes: Whenever possible, use designated bicycle lanes and avoid riding on sidewalks.
  7. Ride Defensively: Be aware of your surroundings and anticipate potential hazards. Make eye contact with drivers to ensure they see you.
