The Sheboygan County Marine Unit is responsible for patrolling the
waterways of Sheboygan County.  The patrol year typically runs from mid-May
until the end of September.  Deputies assigned to the Marine Unit
patrol the inland lakes with a 17 foot Boston Whaler Boat and patrol Lake
Michigan with a 27 foot Safe Boat WAC (Walk-Around-Cabin).  Occasionally
the deputies will also patrol and watch the waterways from their assigned squad car.

The Marine Unit works closely with  and trains with the Wisconsin Department of
Natural Resources (DNR), the United States Coast Guard - Station
Sheboygan, and the Sheboygan Fire Department personnel, including their Rescue Swimmers.

The team will enforce boating regulations under Chapter 30 of the Wisconsin
State Statutes.  When officers observe a violation, they will also perform an
inspection of the boat or personal watercraft (PWC) to make sure all the
necessary safety equipment is in order.  There are also members of the unit
that are certified to teach the DNR boat safety course.  The course typically
runs in spring time and is 12 hours long.

If you have any questions regarding the Marine Unit, please feel free
to contact Sgt. Trevor Bethke (Officer-In-Charge of the Marine Unit) at
920-459-3114 or Trevor.Bethke@SheboyganCounty.com.

Report a Boat Crash

Boat Incident Reporting:  https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/Topic/Boat/CrashInfo

According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources:

A "reportable" boat incident is any incident (regardless of the number of boats involved) that results in loss of life, personal injuries that require medical treatment beyond first aid by a medical professional, boat or property damage in excess of $2,000, or complete loss of a boat.

Wisconsin law requires every boat operator involved in a reportable boat incident to report the incident without delay to law enforcement officials. In addition, within 10 days of the incident, the operator must submit a written report.

If you need to file a report, please follow the link above and use Wisconsin DNR Form 4100-020.
